Inspired by Robert Frost’s poem The Road Not Taken, these embroideries depict life as a series of choices, crossroads, and opportunities for self-discovery. The maze-like structures mirror the labyrinthine journey of finding one's path amid external influences and internal aspirations. Each stitch in the maze reflects the decision-making process—the fear of loss, the weight of uncertainty, and the exhilaration of forging a unique path.
Frost’s lines—“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood... I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”—serve as a profound reminder that our journeys are defined not only by the roads we choose but also by the ones we leave behind. These embroideries encapsulate that essence: the intricate interplay between what we embrace and what we let go.
Through these two series, I explore the complexity of the self—its phases, choices, and dualities. The works invite viewers to engage with their narratives, encouraging reflection on the paths they have traversed. The process of weaving and embroidery—tactile, repetitive, and meditative—mirrors the act of self-reflection itself, stitching together the strands of identity into a cohesive, dynamic whole.
